Refresh Begins TODAY

Refresh 2011 begins today here at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Refresh is a yearly gathering of United Methodist Campus Ministers and Chaplains from colleges and universities from across the United States. THIS YEAR the keynote speakers are Andy Crouch (author & culture making guru), Lovett Weems (UM professor & leadership sage), Ruth Haley Barton (author & self-care expert), and Hugo Magallanes (Director of Latino/a Religious studies at Perkins). Worship will be led by the band Dutton –more info here: http://collegeunion.org/refresh/.

This year Refresh is offering some exciting new opportunities with the General Board of Global Missions: Early Response Team training or a Volunteers in Mission training with the idea that collegiate ministers and college students can be trained (and become trainers) of Volunteers in Mission and Early Response teams to work in conjunction with UMCOR and other agencies in the event of natural disasters.

This year’s Campus Ministry Boot Camp was lead by Creighton Alexander, University of Alabama Wesley Director with sessions on Identifying Your Mission Field, First 90 Days on Campus, Creating a Culture of Discipleship, and more.

Attendees will also be able to see a film screening of Donald Miller’s much anticipated film Blue Like Jazz. Each year the Refresh design team offers an amazing event centered around worship, encouragement, and collaboration through intentional time spent in God’s presence and the presence of colleagues.
